The launch of the YCT Appeal to raise funds to buy a new property
Our President, Sir John Butterfill MP, very kindly organised an event at Westminster last year to help us launch the YCT Appeal. We are very grateful to Britannia for sponsoring the event.
Over 100 people attended the event. The afternoon was introduced by Sir John, Georgina Hillman gave a presentation about the Youth Cancer Trust and the Appeal, Thomas Green and Melissa Allen, both cancer survivors spoke about their experience of cancer and the Youth Cancer Trust and the benefits it brings to young people. James Harrison, brother and YCT holiday companion of Chris Harrison, stood up and made an impromptu speech about the charity.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success.

On my amazing YCT Holiday, my 1st one I might add. After an amazing week we all had the surprise of going to London, an excitement on its own but added to that was the fact we would be going to the Houses Of Parliament to the launch party of the amazing campaign to get a new house for the charity that brings dreams and allows people to do things that would not be possible. Going to London was amazing and with the people I had met over the week so many stories and seeing all the people who work in the background, it was so nice to meet them and also be able to thank them personally. The launch party was really good, hearing inspirational speeches from those who have been on YCT holidays and especially one who sees YCT as meaning You Can Triumph. A message was sent out to everyone in that room from that speech and shows what a new house; a new home could do for them.
Afterwards we were allowed to visit the House of Lords again an area that not many are allowed to go into. Once again showing how YCT makes things that are not normally possible a reality. The week's holiday was so good, and from the launch party and all those who spoke I hope it will encourage those who are thinking about supporting YCT to do it, because overall they need your help to make their own dream a reality.
I am now getting ready to go on my 2nd YCT holiday, I think to everyone YCT means different things, to me it must follow the same meaning as what I heard in London - ‘You Can Triumph.’ Because when I was away and heard the things we were going to do a lot of us were unsure about one or two things but for people to conquer the obstacles they started out with was heart-warming and for Brenda and Jim who see it every week, this must be amazing. Just on this point, I’d like to (as I’m sure everyone who has been on an YCT holiday would) say a massive thank you to everyone at YCT but especially Brenda and Jim. Without your two’s dedication, passion and enthusiasm none of us would be able to have these amazing weeks away, whether it is Jim’s Elvis impression or Brenda’s smiling face. Thank you ever so much.
